I am back with my second bag pattern!
Puffer coat fabric is a great material for making handbags because it is durable, water-resistant, and has a unique texture. Making a handbag from puffer coat fabric is a fun and easy project that you can complete in just a few hours. In this post, I will guide you through the steps of making your own handbag from puffer coat fabric.
Materials:
Puffer coat fabric: You will need about half a meter of puffer coat fabric for the exterior of your handbag and same amount for the lining.
Sewing machine: You will need a sewing machine with a straight stitch and a zigzag stitch.
Thread: Choose a thread that matches your fabric.
Other: Scissors, pins, zipper, embellishments if you want.
Instructions:
Prepare the pattern: Download the pattern from the link below. Print the pattern on A4 paper. Choose original size, do not scale the PDF. Sort the papers and and stick side by side to connect the corners as shown in the instructions. Cut the pattern pieces including sewing allowance.
Cut the fabric: Cut all pattern pieces from both main fabric and lining fabric. Pay attention to fold lines.
Assemble the bag: Attach the zipper to the top main and lining pieces. Keep in mind to use a smaller seam allowance while attaching lining pieces to the zipper. Sew the front, side and
bottom pieces from main fabric and lining fabric separately. Leave a small opening on the bottom lining to turn the bag over later on. Sew the left and right handles, turn them to the
right side. Loop the long handle around short handle. Attach the handle top pieces. Sandwich the handle between the bag body and top pieces. Fix with needles. Leave the zipper half open and sew the edges carefully securing the handle and connecting the main body and top pieces together. Turn the bag inside out from the lining hole. Hand sew the lining opening. Following are the supporting pictures showing the process:
